During the smoke this left a sweet, rich, smoky aftertaste and after the smoke the same aftertaste that was pleasant for over an hour. moreover all this blend dont heat the bowl and your smoke are warm during all the time. Ive finally settled on this is one great blend! This thing here -this Pirate Kake- has indeed hit the spot. Taste is med to full and consistent throughout. This is an exceptional tobacco. I tried this blend which came recommended by my tobacconist, knowing that Old Ironsides is discontinued, and soon will be impossible to aquire. It has a smokey sweetness to it that I have not detected in any other blend. I actually had to read up on this blend to find out its contents. It was almost worth the price just for that. Goes well with my one Halloween costume, which is a pirate, you should know that. Guess what? The nicotine's just above medium, not 'strong', but more of a strength for the mornings. It's smoky but honestly not as strong as you would believe being 75% Latakia. Of course the smoky stuff is prominent but its not all there is: smoky, sweet, zesty, and a slightly sour note on the finish combine to make a tasty and interesting smoke. Just yesterday I had some Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels, and I immediately thought of those when I emblazoned a bowl of Pirate Kake for the first time (Buttery smooth caramels, drenched in Belgian dark chocolate, then sprinkled with crunchy rock salt from the Dead Sea). that just makes this blend too much for me. If you like a whole lotta Latakia, go for it. Burns well, I like to dry it a bit but its okay not, just a little more moisture in the bowl than Id generally like. Choose Options. Choose . Latakia in capital letters, but smooth, evenly burning, never to harsh. Pirate Kake does just that. I much prefer this blend over "Old Ironsides" or "Black Frigate" even though those are also worthy of sea rats and scalowags. I have smoked about 7 oz. Lighting up the bowl I was greeted by smoke rolling from the bowl and a rich, heavy, sweet smoke that I found very pleasing and that dominated this smoke. It's one of my favorite ingredients in any blend. The presentation was a cube in the sample I got. It has a lot of similarities to Penzance (including the iodine note identified by reviewer," GSTQ 12/27/2011" ). A little air time helps but on a good dry day you can get by without it. This blend seems to be great quality and the latakia seems to be better and smoother than i've had in the past. Recommended. I have heard a lot about this lat bomb and I was ready to explode it in my den. This is a fine smoke for a snowy winter night, I will be ordering up the one pound bag very soon, this one is a winner. It took two matches to get started and required only one relight. I love Latakia and this did not disappoint! The flavor is largely latakia, but not one dimensional, as Old Ironsides is, for me. The cake rubs out easily and tastes great. It has been sitting in my closet for almost exactly 6 years. 40 or 50% may be the highest worthy of time. The Cavendish tries now and again, but about all it can seem to muster is to have a slight sweetening effect on the Latakia. This one, on the other hand is a lat bomb, and for me is very tasty. This left no moisture in the bowl. 4 stars because it is very special and unique + because a must try baccy. i have found this one to be better if smoked only from time to time, and not as a good daily smoke, as more than one bowl in a day leaves the mouth unable to taste anything else for several hours. I am a lover of strong peaty scotches, and this right here reminds me of the taste of a full strength Ardbeg. There's enough sweetness and nuttiness to mellow out the high dose of Lady L. Barely any sweetness in the blend, and if you do find it, it doesn't stay. The smell of burned wood and leather is very evident from the tin. And finally, this has a very heavy room-note. Not for everyone, and cake tobaccos require some rubbing out, but all in all a good tobacco.
